Easy Mushroom Omelette for Babies & Toddlers
A simple mushroom omelette is one of my favorite finger foods for babies just starting their weaning journey. It’s a great way to add protein to your baby’s meal when they’re still learning to chew.
I still make this recipe at least once a week even though my kids are toddlers now. It’s one of the quickest meals to make on busy school mornings.
It’s packed with nutrients from the mushrooms and other vegetables, so you can rest assured knowing your baby or toddler is getting the best meal.
The best thing about this recipe is that you can make it for breakfast or as part of a tasty lunch for your family to enjoy.

It’s the perfect baby recipe because it’s not puree, yet it’s still soft enough to use when starting baby-led weaning.

You can make it with or without cheese
I’m lactose intolerant, so I try to make a mushroom omelette without cheese for my family. Sometimes I only put cheese in half of the omelette, so I can serve the dairy-free part to myself.
When I do use cheese, I like to use mozzarella, parmesan, or sharp cheddar. Those are my kid’s favorites. You can sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top if you have any leftovers.

FAQs About Mushrooms For Babies
When Can Babies Have Mushrooms?
Babies can have mushrooms at 6 months old, which is when most pediatricians recommend starting solids
Are Mushrooms a Choking Hazard?
Mushrooms are a common choking hazard because the cap is very rubbery when cooked. This makes it hard for babies to chew. The stem is also cylindrical so it can easily slide down your baby’s throat.
To reduce the risk of choking, make sure you cut mushrooms in the appropriate size based on your child’s age.
The Best Mushrooms for Baby Led Weaning
Any mushroom can be used for baby-led weaning. I prefer portabella mushrooms because they have a rich flavor when cooked. You can also opt for white button mushrooms as well.
