Why I Created Dragon Fruit Smoothie For Babies

I created this dragon fruit smoothie recipe for babies because I wanted my kids to be able to enjoy the fruit when it’s in season.

My youngest didn’t like to eat dragon fruit directly so I had to come up with creative ways to make dragon fruit more appealing.

That’s how I ended up creating this recipe as well as my dragon fruit oatmeal recipe.

Tools You Will Need To Make Dragon Fruit Smoothie For Baby

A Blender

To make this recipe, you’ll need a good blender like the Vitamix to puree the ingredients.

If you don’t have a great blender, you’ll end up with clumps of dragon fruit in your smoothie.

That’s not a big deal for adults but some kids are sensitive to textures, so that’s something to keep in mind.

I love my Vitamix blender. I use it often for cooking.

A Smoothie Mold

Getting your baby-led weaning kid to drink a smoothie on their own is a messy task.

That’s why I like to pour the smoothie into a popsicle mold like this one.

It allows them to get the full taste and texture of the smoothie without any barriers.

If you prefer, you can pour the smoothie into feeding teethers to help with your baby’s teething gums. You can get them from Amazon

Ingredients For BLW Dragon Fruit Smoothie

Dragon fruit – I used red dragon fruit for my smoothie recipe but you can use any other variety you prefer.

Remember to peel and use only the white fruit with black dots inside. You don’t want the tough outer layer.

Banana – I used banana for my dragon fruit smoothie recipe because it helps to thicken the smoothie and make it sweeter.

Milk – milk helps to make the smoothie more creamy. If you don’t want to add milk, you can just skip the process. I’ve made it before with and without milk and both times they came out delicious.

Sweetener – to improve the taste of the dragon fruit smoothie for baby, I added some brown sugar to the recipe.

If you don’t want any sugar, you can add some pure maple syrup instead. Please note that pure maple syrup is different from corn syrup. Maple syrup is much healthier.

Spices – I love adding flavors to my smoothies in the form of spices. For this recipe, I added vanilla and cinnamon to improve the taste.

Tips for Picky Eaters

Don’t pressure

Give your baby or toddler a chance to say no. It’s okay if they don’t like what we serve them. Keep trying.

It takes at least 30 exposures for a baby to begin liking a food, so don’t give up.

Make it into a game

Sometimes I create games around the food I serve to get my kids interested in eating.

A game we’ve played in the past is called “Here comes the airplane… open the garage”. This encourages them to open their mouth as I bring the food in like an airplane.

Sometimes my kids will try new foods this way.
