Why I Created Dragon Fruit Oatmeal For Baby
I created this recipe last year when my mom brought dragon fruit to our home. I’d never seen dragon fruit before that, so I didn’t know what to do with them.
I tried feeding them directly to my youngest who was doing baby-led weaning at that time and he just wasn’t interested.
So I pureed some of the dragon fruit and made healthy popsicles out of them.
I also added some into oatmeal, and that’s how this dragon fruit oatmeal for baby was created.

Important Recipe Notes on Dragon Fruit Oatmeal For Babies
This recipe contains dairy
I used real milk for this dragon fruit oatmeal recipe. If your baby is allergic or sensitive to milk, you can use a milk alternative such as almond milk, rice milk, etc.
You can use any additional fruit of your choice
I know that some people don’t like bananas, so I wanted to let you know that it’s optional.
I only added it to give the oatmeal a more sweet flavor. You can use other fruits like berries and shredded apples to make the oatmeal more sweet.
Ingredients For BLW Dragon Fruit Oatmeal
Dragon fruit – dragon fruit is the main ingredient in this oatmeal. You only want to use the gray fruit and not the red outer layer. They are very mild in taste, so you will need to add something to bring out their sweetness.
Banana – I added banana to this dragon fruit oatmeal for babies because it helps to make it sweeter. If you don’t like bananas, you can skip it in the recipe.
Oatmeal – rolled oats are what I use to make my oatmeal. You can also use baby oatmeal or instant oatmeal for this recipe.
Milk – I used lactaid milk to make this oatmeal because I’m lactose intolerant.
If your baby is allergic to milk, then you can use oat milk or other non-milk varieties.
Although I suggested 1-2 cups of milk, you can choose to use as much or as little as you want.
Sweetener – although using a sweetener is not necessary, I suggest that you do it because dragon fruit is very mild in flavor.
You can choose to use brown sugar or maple syrup for this oatmeal depending on what you prefer.
Spices – I added some cinnamon and vanilla to give the oatmeal some nice flavor. This is completely optional if you want a mild-flavored oatmeal.

Tips for Picky Eaters
Don’t pressure
Give your baby or toddler a chance to say no. It’s okay if they don’t like what we serve them. Keep trying.
It takes at least 30 exposures for a baby to begin liking a food, so don’t give up.
Make it into a game
Sometimes I create games around the food I serve to get my kids interested in eating.
A game we’ve played in the past is called “Here comes the airplane… open the garage”. This encourages them to open their mouth as I bring the food in like an airplane.
Sometimes my kids will try new foods this way.
