Ready to try avocado banana pancakes for babies? You won’t be disappointed with this recipe.

It’s so simple to make because it only uses 3 ingredients and cooks in less than 10 minutes.

I created this recipe because I wanted a unique way to get my baby and toddler to try avocados.

They can be very picky when it comes to the texture of certain foods. Since they didn’t like eating avocados directly, I decided to add them to something else.

That’s how my avocado pancakes for babies were born. I’ve been making this recipe ever since.

To provide it with some sweetness, you can add bananas to create avocado banana pancakes for babies.

Why I Love This 3-Ingredient Avocado banana pancake for babies

Avocado is one of the most healthy foods you can feed your baby. It’s packed with healthy vitamins and minerals such as omega-3 fatty acids (source)

These good fats help provide your baby with energy and help them stay full for longer periods of time.

Important Recipe Notes

You can use water in place of milk

This recipe uses milk to loosen the batter when making this baby avocado banana pancake.

If your baby is allergic to milk or you don’t like it, you can replace the milk with water.

The avocado pancake for babies won’t be as silky but it will be just as fluffy and delicious. Milk is just my personal preference.

If using milk, add it last

If you do decide to use milk for this avocado banana pancake for babies, then you should add it last.

You should combine all the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients except for the milk.

Just let the ingredients rest for a few minutes so that the baking soda and powder will have time to activate with the mixture.

After that, you can then add the milk to loosen the batter. I’ve found that this method produces the most fluffy pancake that isn’t flat.

You can use either baking soda or baking powder

This avocado pancake for babies doesn’t require you to use both baking soda and powder. You can use one or the other. I prefer to use both because I’ve found that it makes my pancake fluffier.

Avocado pancake batter gets black quickly. So don’t leave it out

I suggest you make your avocado banana pancake as quickly as possible because the batter tends to get black if you leave it out too long.

That’s because avocados react with oxygen making them turn black.

What to serve with BLW Avocado Banana Pancake

Serve with a side of fruits

Fruits are my favorite additions to baby-led weaning meals. They go with everything from breakfast to dinner.

Avocado pancakes will taste so much better if paired with some fruits on the side.

How to serve avocado banana pancake to babies

6 – 9 months old

Babies this young only have the ability to grab things with the palm of their hands. So make sure you serve large pieces of food that are easy to grab.

You should cut pancakes in large strips for babies between 6-9 months old.

10- 12 months old

At 10-12 months old, you can serve avocado banana pancakes to babies by cutting them into chunks.

Babies this age have developed their pincer grasp. This means they can pick up smaller pieces of food.

Avocado Pancake Tips for Picky Eaters

Don’t pressure

Give your baby or toddler a chance to say no. It’s okay if they don’t like what we serve them. Keep trying. It takes at least 30 exposures for a baby to begin liking a food, so don’t give up.

Add jelly or jam to the pancake

Sometimes all it takes to get my kids to try new pancake recipes is adding some jelly or jam to them.

This provides a little sweetness that makes it easy for them to eat the pancake.

Over time, as they get used to the texture, you can stop adding the toppings.

Ingredients for Baby-led Weaning Avocado Banana Pancake

Avocado – any type of avocado will do. I used Hass avocados for this recipe

Flour – you can use whole wheat or white flour. I prefer white flour for this avocado banana pancake recipe.

Egg – eggs help bind the flour together

Banana – you don’t need to add bananas to this recipe. You can make avocado pancakes without it, but bananas help provide some sweetness.

Baking soda & Baking powder – you can use either or. I have both in my kitchen so I use them.

Milk – if you don’t have milk you can use water instead. I prefer milk because it makes my pancake fluffier.

Sweetener – If your baby prefers their pancake sweet, you can choose to add 1 TBSP of pure maple syrup. This is optional.
