Wondering how to serve avocado to your toddler or baby? Well, you’re not alone.

Avocados are weird vegetables. A lot of kids I’ve met don’t like them. That’s because of the slimy slippery texture.

It definitely takes some getting used to.

Both my baby and toddler will not eat avocados unless it’s mixed into other foods. And they will only eat it if they don’t have to touch it directly.

Weird, I know. But every kid is different.

So I like to make avocado meals that they can eat with utensils or don’t have to touch directly. 

That’s why I’ve put together a long list of ways you can serve avocado to babies and toddlers.

How do I prepare avocado for my toddler?

Puree It to make Avocado pasta sauce

One way to serve avocados to toddlers is to make avocado pasta.

Avocado pasta sauce can be a replacement for mac and cheese because of its gooey texture.

My kids will eat avocado this way.

I add a little garlic and lemon juice to the freshly blended avocado and then pour it directly into the cooked pasta.

If you want, you can grate some fresh Parmesan cheese on top to add to the flavor.

Make An Avocado Cheese Sandwich 

My next recipe is an avocado cheese sandwich. It’s a fun way to prepare avocados for toddlers.

It’s like a patty melt but with avocados instead of beef. All you need is one avocado, some cheddar cheese, and two pieces of bread.

Avocado oatmeal for your baby or toddler 

My kids love oatmeal. They get excited whenever it’s an oatmeal day at our house.

So when I had some leftover avocados to use one morning, I decided to mix it into oatmeal.

The result was amazing! They ate it right up.

Make avocado pancakes for kids

Another way to serve avocado to kids is to mix it into pancakes. Kids who love pancakes won’t even notice the avocado mixed in inside.

It makes the pancake gooey and fluffy at the same time. You can also mask it further by adding some jam on top to sweeten it up more.

Avocado muffins have a subtle green color and a mild flavor. 

That means you can mix in other fruits to enhance the sweetness of the avocado muffins.

Muffins are one of the easiest ways I get my kids to eat avocados and other unusual fruits and vegetables.

Turn them into Avocado ice cream or popsicles 

Another awesome avocado recipe for kids is avocado popsicles or ice cream. 

To make avocado ice cream, combine the avocado with some milk, vanilla, and sugar in a blender and blend until smooth. 

Then pour the mixture into a bowl and whisk to add some air to it. After that, you can freeze the mixture overnight until it hardens into an ice cream consistency.

Another variation of this is avocado popsicles. The recipe stays the same, except you’re freezing the mixture in a popsicle mold like this one on Amazon. 

What kid doesn’t like popsicles and ice cream? 

Make avocado waffles with them

Avocado waffles are another excellent way to serve avocados to kids.

To make avocado waffles, you’ll need a waffle maker like this one on Amazon. That’s the one we use at home.

You’ll also need premade waffle mix (not pancake mix). Although some pancake mixes can also be used as waffle mixes with a few additional ingredients.

I love using Kodiak Protein Pancakes and Waffle Mix. 

All you need to add to the powder is one egg, ½ cup of oil, and half of a mashed avocado.

Pour it into your prepared waffle iron and enjoy it when it’s done.

My toddlers love it drizzled with some maple syrup.

Make burritos with avocados 

Looking for a Mexican twist to serve avocado to your toddler? Try burrito.

Burritos can be made easily with store-bought canned beans, and a cup of rice.

Boil the rice until it’s cooked. Then combine it with the beans (drain and rinse it first). 

Top the burrito with some chopped avocado before wrapping it up. 

My baby gets a deconstructed burrito for lunch sometimes while my toddler gets a whole burrito wrap.

Just slice them on a plate

If your baby or toddler doesn’t mind the texture of avocados, then just offer it to them directly.

All you need to do is slice it on a plate. You can make it a side dish for any type of meal. 

Toddler muffins with avocado are a good combination to serve to a kid.

Avocado scrambled eggs 

This next recipe is a good way to serve avocado to babies and toddlers for breakfast.

My toddler loves eggs, especially scrambled eggs. So to serve him avocados, I sometimes purée or chop them and add them to scrambled eggs for him.

Make Avocado Tuna salad with them

I know many people can’t stand the smell of fish but believe me when I say that my avocado tuna salad recipe is the best.

Even my toddler who doesn’t like fish loves this tuna salad recipe. 

All you need is avocado, lemon juice, carrots, one celery stalk, and a can of tuna. Mix it up and you’ve got the best tuna salad ever made.

You can either serve avocado tuna salad on bread to your toddler or serve it like a dip and offer some chips to go with it. 

Avocado egg toast

Another easy recipe for avocado is this avocado egg toast. It’s a simple way to serve avocado to your toddler or baby.

You’ll need one toasted bread and one hard-boiled egg.

Make them into guacamole

Guacamole is another common way to prepare avocados for kids.

The flavor of the added ingredients like lemon, tomatoes, and cilantro really compliments the avocado to elevate the taste.

My kids go crazy for my homemade guacamole. I serve it with chips for my toddler and a teething cracker for my baby.

I just eat it with a spoon.

Make Avocado Nachos for kids 

Nachos are my all-time favorite Mexican food. They’re a great way to serve avocados to kids.

If you want a simple no-meat nacho recipe. Try this!

Lay down some hard chips on an oven-safe plate. 

I love and use Fiestaware plates because they can go directly into the oven up to 350 degrees. 

You don’t have to transfer the food from the plate after cooking. Just wait for it to cool and put it directly on the dinner table. They also come in many colors.

After your nachos have been placed on an oven-safe plate or tray. Add some drained and rinsed canned beans on top. 

Add some cheese on top as well to cover the beans. Bake the nachos for about 15 minutes or until the cheese melts at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Remove the nachos from the oven and top with chopped or mashed avocados. 

Only add the avocados after making the nachos because cooked avocados lose their flavor.

Make avocado yogurt smoothies 

If your kids like eating yogurt pouches then this recipe is for you. 

Make them a mixture of some fruits, maple syrup, yogurt, and avocados. 

To avoid any rejection of this yogurt recipe, I suggest placing the yogurt inside a yogurt pouch like this one on Amazon. 

Your kids won’t even notice the avocado because they’ll be enjoying their yogurt smoothie.

Chop them into rice and beans

Rice, beans, and avocados is a simple yet tasty meal for babies and toddlers.

Pressuring kids to eat what you serve may backfire. It makes them not want to touch the food at all.

Instead of putting pressure on them to eat by saying things like “You won’t get__if you don’t eat your avocado first”, just leave the avocado on their plate.

Give them a safe food with the avocado 

I suggest you give them one safe food along with the avocado on the side.

Giving them safe foods you know they’ll eat ensures that they won’t starve if they don’t eat the avocado.

Lemon gives avocado a more zesty flavor. It makes it more palatable to eat.

You could also mix avocado into other foods like muffins, pancakes, oatmeal, and toast.
