10-minute Broccoli Pancakes For Baby & Toddlers
If you’re looking for a way to add some veggies to your baby’s diet, then try this baby-led weaning broccoli pancakes.
I love making them for my toddlers to help creatively increase their vegetable intake.
Each pancake contains a generous amount of broccoli florets to help nourish your little one.
Some people call them baby-friendly broccoli fritters but I like to call them pancakes because you can eat them with sweet or savory spreads.
Why I Love Making Broccoli Pancakes for My Kids
These toddler-friendly broccoli pancakes take less than 15 minutes to prepare in the morning.
They’re an easy way to add some vitamins and minerals to your kid’s diet.
I love the contrasting texture of the broccoli florets with the pancake mixture.
Important Recipe Notes on BLW Broccoli Fritters
Use only the broccoli florets
To get the best broccoli pancakes make sure you use only the florets.
The stem is very hard, so it might be too chewy for babies and younger toddlers.
You can either use a cheese grater to grate the florets into small pieces or chop it with a knife.
Use only fresh broccoli
To avoid having to defrost the broccoli before cooking, you should stick to fresh ones only.
Frozen broccoli tend to be too soggy so they may not cook well.

Ingredients For Toddler-friendly Broccoli Pancakes
Flour – Use either whole wheat, all-purpose flour, or a mix of both.
Broccoli – Use only the florets to avoid having hard chunks in the pancakes.
Eggs – Eggs help the ingredients bind together. You can use an egg substitute if you want.
Water or milk – This helps loosen the batter to make it more pourable.
Allergy Consideration For Broccoli Pancake
These pancakes contain eggs
Eggs are a common allergen, and these pancakes contain eggs. The eggs help to bind all the ingredients together so it’s necessary for this recipe.
Make sure that you watch your kids for signs of an egg allergy after feeding them this meal.

Why Broccoli Is Good For Babies and Toddlers
Broccoli is a great vegetable to feed young kids. It contains tons of nutrients that they need to grow.
Broccoli is an excellent source of Folate, vitamins A, C, and K. It’s also a good source of fiber, which aids in digestion (source).
What To Serve With Baby-friendly Broccoli Pancakes
Serve with a sweet spread
Broccoli pancake is a unique breakfast food. Because it’s made with no seasoning or spices, you can make it a savory or sweet food depending on your chosen spread.
When my kids were younger, I served them broccoli pancakes with a spread of Jam or syrup.
Making it sweet helped mask the vegetable so my picky eater son could eat it.
Serve with a savory spread
If you’d rather eat your broccoli pancake with a savory spread, then you can try my favorite one by Stonewall Kitchen. I love their Maple Bacon Onion Jam. It goes well with savory pancakes, sandwiches, and meat.
How To Cut Broccoli Pancakes For Baby-led Weaning
6-9 Months old
Babies between the ages of 6 and 9 months who are just starting baby-led weaning should be served pancakes cut into long strips.
Each strip should be the size of two adult fingers pressed together. That way, your baby can easily grasp and feed themselves.
9-12 months old
Babies and toddlers between 9 and 12 months can be served broccoli pancakes with cut into small squares. This will allow them to grasp them easily as they practice using their pincer grasp.
12- 24 months and older
Toddlers 12 months and older should be served pancakes in small cubes. They can be encouraged to use a fork either independently or with assistance.

Broccoli Pancakes Storage Tips
Can I refrigerate Brocolli Pancake?
You can refrigerate these pancakes for up to two days in the fridge. Make sure you store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
If you don’t plan to eat them immediately, then you should freeze them instead.
Can I freeze broccoli pancakes?
The best way to store these pancakes is to freeze them later.
To avoid them sticking together, place a layer of parchment paper between each pancake before stacking them together.
Your pancake will last in the freezer for as long as you need.
Reheating BLW Broccoli Pancakes
The best way to reheat these pancakes is in the microwave. Place a piece of paper towel on a microwavable plate. Then place the pancakes on the plate.
Microwave each one on high for 1-2 minutes until they’re hot inside before serving.
Tips for Picky Eaters
Don’t pressure
Give your baby or toddler a chance to say no. It’s okay if they don’t like what we serve them. Keep trying.
It takes at least 30 exposures for a baby to begin liking a food, so don’t give up.
Make it into a game
Sometimes I create games around the food I serve to get my kids interested in eating.
A game we’ve played in the past is called “Here comes the airplane… open the garage”. This encourages them to open their mouth as I bring the food in like an airplane.
Sometimes my kids will try new foods this way.
