Why I Love Making Tofu Broccoli Stir Fry for Baby

You can use any vegetables of your choice

When making this stir fry for your kids, you can use whatever leftover vegetables you have in your fridge.

That’s one thing I love about making stir fry.

My favorite veggies to use are bell peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli.

I try to add a variety of vegetables into the stir fry to help broaden my kid’s palate.

You can add meat to the stir-fry

I know that one of the reasons people cook with tofu is because they’re looking for meat alternatives.

You may be making this recipe because you’re vegan or vegetarian.

If that’s the case then stick with using just the tofu.

If you’re not vegan or vegetarian, then you can choose to add meat to this tofu stir fry.

My baby and toddler love pork so I try to use pork in the stir I make for them.

So don’t be surprised that my recipe lists pork as an ingredient.

You can add your favorite spices to personalize the recipe

I love cooking with all sorts of spices to add variety to our diet.

When making stir fry, I love using Chinese Five Spice, garlic, ginger, and other jarred spices.

You don’t have to keep things mild for your kids because they will eventually get used to the way the whole family eats.

Allergy Considerations for Baby-friendly Tofu & Broccoli

Tofu is a common allergen

The main ingredient in tofu is soy. Soy is one of the most common allergens in babies and toddlers.

If this is your first time feeding tofu to your baby, make sure you watch them for signs of a soy allergy during and after feeding.

FAQs About Tofu Broccoli Stir Fry

Do you need to press the tofu before stir-frying?

To avoid adding excess water to your stir fry, it’s best to press the tofu before stir-frying. This will help remove some of the excess liquid before cooking.

What kind of tofu is best for stir fry?

I’ve used firm, extra first, and soft tofu for stir fry before. From my cooking experience, both soft and firm tofu are the best for stir fry.

This is because firm and soft tofu are just like sponges. They’re more hollow inside and can absorb the flavor,  juices, spices, and broth from the stir fry.

Extra firm tofu remains hard in the stir fry and won’t absorb as much flavor.

What To Serve With Toddler-friendly Tofu & Broccoli Stir Fry

Serve With rice

Rice is one of the easiest side dishes to serve with tofu and broccoli for your baby or toddler.

I prefer to use brown rice because it’s easy to cook and contains more nutrients.

Kids also tend to like it.

Serve with noodles

If you have a baby who just started baby-led weaning, then noodles are the way to go.

Serve them large noodles that have been cooked soft enough to squish between your fingers.

My favorites are spaghetti, farfalle, or bow-tie pasta.

How To Serve Broccoli Tofu Stir-Fry For Baby-led Weaning

6-9 Months old

Tofu and broccoli stir-fry can be served to babies between 6 and 9 months old in a bowl for them to scoop it from.

Let your baby eat the meal with their hands at this age because that’s what they’d be most comfortable with.

Make sure you cook the broccoli soft enough that it’s easily pieced through with a fork. This will help babies to eat it more easily.

Allow your baby to continue eating with their hands if that’s how they’re most comfortable. When appropriate, help them practice eating with a fork by preloading it for them. This will help build their confidence in using utensils.

12- 24 months and older

At 12-24, babies and toddlers in this age group can either be fed using preloaded utensils or allowed to practice on their own.
