Simple Avocado Oatmeal For Baby-led Weaning (3-ingredients)
Avocado oatmeal for baby-led weaning is one of my favorite breakfast recipes.
My kids don’t like the texture of avocados but they’ll eat it if it’s mixed in with other foods like avocado toast and avocado pancake.
Making avocado oatmeal for babies is another way I like to use this fruit.
This recipe is simple and requires only 3 major ingredients; avocado, Oatmeal, and milk.
It’s one of those easy breakfast that you make in the morning when you’re too busy to cook.

Why I Love This Avocado Oatmeal for Baby

Important Recipe Notes on Baby-led Weaning Avocado Oatmeal
You can use a milk alternative
If you’re not a fan of milk due to dairy allergies or intolerance, then you can use a milk substitute.
I prefer lactaid milk because we’re lactose intolerant. You can also choose to use almond milk, oat milk, and others of your choice.
Any kind of oat will do
For this recipe, I used rolled oats. But you can choose to use steel-cut oats or quick oats if that’s what you have available.
Just make sure you cook the oats until it’s soft enough for your baby to eat.
You can add other fruits to this avocado oatmeal
I added blueberries to this avocado oatmeal for babies. In the past, I’ve also added bananas, blackberries, and raspberries.
You can add any fruit of your choice.
Use as much milk as you like
I prefer my oatmeal very watery. So I use more than 2 cups of milk.
To make oatmeal for my baby and toddler, I sometimes use less than two cups. They prefer their oatmeal thick and gooey.
Add or reduce the cups of milk to achieve your desired texture.

Why Avocados Are Good for Babies and Toddlers
Avocados are one of my favorite foods for babies because of the good fats they contain (source).

How to serve avocado oatmeal to baby and toddler
6 – 9 months old
You can serve avocado oatmeal for babies in a bowl. Babies between 6-9 months old will be better at scoping food from a bowl with their hands.
10-12 months old
Once your baby is between 10-12 months, they may be ready to learn to use a spoon. So I suggest feeding them avocado oatmeal with a preloaded spoon.
12 months plus
Toddlers older than 12 months be given a spoon to feed themselves with. At this age, they should be practicing independent eating with utensils.
Tips for Picky Eaters
Don’t pressure
Give your baby or toddler a chance to say no. It’s okay if they don’t like what we serve them. Keep trying.
It takes at least 30 exposures for a baby to begin liking a food, so don’t give up.
Make it into a game
Sometimes I create games around the food I serve to get my kids interested in eating.
A game we’ve played in the past is called “Here comes the airplane… open the garage”. This encourages them to open their mouth as I bring the food in like an airplane.
Sometimes my kids will try new foods this way.
