Easy BLW Oatmeal With Blueberries & Apples
Why I Love This Blueberry Oatmeal For Baby-led Weaning
I’ve been feeding my kids blueberry oatmeal since my oldest was 6 months old. Oatmeal is such a hearty meal to feed babies and toddlers.
It’s very filling so it keeps them full for a long time. It also helps them move their bowels when they’re constipated.
In today’s recipe, I’ll share with you how I make this delicious blueberry oatmeal for baby-led weaning.
My kids never used to like oatmeal when I first started making it. The texture was very strange to them. They didn’t like that it was slimy and chunky all at the same time. So to make it more palatable, I started experimenting with different ways to make oatmeal.

I used different types of milk, then I added cinnamon, vanilla, and fruits. What I created at the end of the day was an oatmeal recipe that my kids ask for at least once a week.
For this recipe, I used blueberries and apples as my fruits. You can choose to use any type of fruit you want.
In the past, I’ve used raspberries and strawberries. They all taste just the same to my kids. It’s good to vary things up so it doesn’t get boring.

How To Feed Oatmeal To A Baby
How to feed oatmeal to a 6 – 9 month-old baby
You can cook oatmeal and form them into balls. This will make it easier for 6 – 9-month-old babies to pick up and feed themselves.
You can also make baked oatmeal fingers using my recipe. Oatmeal fingers are easy for babies to grip when doing baby-led weaning.
How to feed oatmeal to a 9 – 12 month-old baby
You can feed oatmeal to 9 – 12-month-old babies using a pre-loaded spoon. At this age, babies can grab spoons and bring them to their mouths successfully. So give them lots of practice with this skill.
You can also allow 9 – 12-month-old babies to scoop oatmeal out of the bowl with their hands. Note that this may create some mess, so be prepared with shirt bibs and splat mats under the highchair.
Storage Tips for Baby-led Weaning Oatmeal
This recipe doesn’t keep well so it’s best to eat it warm after preparing it. An alternative is to make overnight oats instead if you want to eat them the next day.
