Why I Love Making Banana Oat Cookies For Babies & Toddlers

I love making these healthy banana oat cookies for babies and toddlers because they contain very simple ingredients.

All you need to make them are 3 ingredients such as rolled oats, bananas, and a little bit of peanut butter. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

I started making these oat cookies because I was looking for something sweet for my kids to eat for dessert that wasn’t junk food.

My oldest toddler was asking for some of his Halloween candy and I didn’t want him to have any more of them.

So I took my leftover banana and combined it with some rolled oats to make these delicious and healthy oatmeal cookies.

Everyone loved it so much that it was all gone by the following day. I’ve been making these banana oatmeal cookies ever since.

Important Recipe Notes on Peanut Butter Banana Oat Cookies

These oatmeal cookies contain nut butter

You should know that I added some peanut butter to this oatmeal cookie recipe, just in case your baby or toddler is allergic to nuts.

It’s always a good idea to know the signs of a nut allergy in case your baby develops one after eating these cookies.

Peanut butter gives these cookies a rich flavor that you won’t get if you don’t include them in the recipe.

You can use egg to replace the peanut butter

If you don’t want to use peanut butter to make these banana oatmeal cookies, you can replace it with one egg.

The purpose of the peanut butter was to help bind the rolled oats with the banana. Sometimes, if the banana isn’t mashed well enough, the cookies won’t hold.

That’s why I like using peanut butter to provide some extra binding to the oat cookies.

One egg will help to accomplish the same purpose.

If you do choose to use egg instead of peanut butter, then skip the step of microwaving the oatmeal mixture.

You can use any nut butter of your choice

You can choose to use any other type of nut butter if you want.

My kids and I love peanut butter, so that’s what we use for this recipe. Almond butter is another good option.

Peanut butter – peanut butter makes these oatmeal cookies sweet.

It also helps to bind the oats together. Use smooth peanut butter to make it safe for babies to eat.

Banana – overripe banana is best for this recipe. Make sure to mash the banana very well.

Oats – I use rolled oats to make my peanut butter banana oatmeal cookies. I find that my kids prefer the crunchiness of the rolled oats. You can also use instant oats instead.

Tips for Picky Eaters

Don’t pressure

Give your baby or toddler a chance to say no. It’s okay if they don’t like what we serve them. Keep trying.

It takes at least 30 exposures for a baby to begin liking a food, so don’t give up.

Make it into a game

Sometimes I create games around the food I serve to get my kids interested in eating.

A game we’ve played in the past is called “Here comes the airplane… open the garage”. This encourages them to open their mouth as I bring the food in like an airplane.

Sometimes my kids will try new foods this way.
